Cinco de Mayo and Puebla Battle Fact Sheet
Holiday marks Cinco de Mayo seen across the United States as a Mexican culture celebration. The 1862 Puebla battle was a symbolic Mexican victory over invaders but did not halt the French advance. Some historians link the clash to Civil War distractions, yet France ruled Mexico 1864 to 1867 before US aid helped end the invasion.
