School Pressure Said Causing Ulcers in Tots

Dr. H. Gerthon Morgan, of the University of Maryland Institute of Child Study, warned at a Maryland conference that many elementary students nationwide are on tranquilizers and developing ulcers due to academic pressure. He said bright pupils suffer nightmares from striving to excel, with family, community, and teachers also contributing. He urged valuing individual achievement and questioned hiring teachers without considering their devotion to family.

King Urges Bloc Vote By Negroes in Alabama

Dr Martin Luther King Jr urged a large bloc vote by Negroes in Alabama's governor race during a rural campaign stop. He called for unified backing of a single candidate, aiming to mobilize about 230,000 voters in the Democratic primary and noting federal observers in counties with voting examiners. King did not name a candidate, but Hosea Williams signaled support for Richmond Flowers. If turnout is high, over 50 Negroes may win in a slate including 52 local and legislative races.
