Atomic-age gadgets range from midget to monster in exhibit
National Bureau of Standards and Atomic Energy Commission displayed over 100 radiation instruments for protection, detection, and analysis. A one-inch Geiger counter signals gamma radiation while a 14-ton betatron generates high-energy beams for shielding tests. The exhibit, once secret, is now in private production and used in medical, industrial, and military contexts. Also noted is the state convention of the Junior Classical League at East Texas State College in Commerce, with about 600 Texas high school Latin students expected to attend from 50 chapters.
