BAYTOWN Goose Creek administrators say they will occupy their new administration building at the former Lone Star site on Interstate 10 off Garth Road by Sept. 1. The $3.6 million project will provide 47,000 square feet of space, up from 19,000 and 15,000 in two older facilities. Superintendent Barbara Sultis notes the move follows last year’s Lone Star purchase despite a remaining tenant.

Baytown WWII veteran earns Lee High honorary diploma
Edward W. Briggs, a Robert E. Lee High School student who left in March 1942 to serve in World War II, received an honorary high school diploma from Lee High principal David Hall. Hall presented a Ganders lapel pin as a keepsake. Briggs returned from combat in 1945, enrolled at Lee College in 1946, and later attended the University of Houston part time, after which his attempts to complete high school continued.
