Harris Scouts Burke Quits Race to Receive Awards
An East Harris District Boy Scout Court of Honor will be held at 2:3 p.m. tomorrow at the Bay town Community House with 29 Scouts receiving awards. The East Harts District will recommend Robert Holsomback to the National Court of Honor for an Eagle award. Seven Scouts will receive second class awards. They are Loyd Guidry, Edward Gillespie, Tommy Parris, Dennis Black, David Lange, Clive Robelson, Frank Young. Eight Scouts will be presented first class awards. They are Eugene and Robert Dillard, Charles Houghton, Bobby Naivar, Milton Thomas, Robert Gunn, David McPnaill, Bill Simmons. Star awards go to John Everett Brazier and Asa Ray Walker. Twenty-one Scouts will receive 60 Merit Badges. A Bronze Palm will be presented to Jimmy Thomas. City council candidates face a race with 31 days left. F. W. Frank Buck famed for Bring Em Back Alive died in Houston at 66 after a cancer battle. He was admitted to Herman Hospital for a check up and passed away at 7:20 am with wife Muriel by his side. Buck, a native Texan, began his jungle career in 1911 after leaving journalism in Chicago. He authored books, lectured, and produced films including Bring Em Back Alive. Funeral services were planned for tomorrow.

Funeral services were held at La Porte Community Church for W R Vickers a Harris County rice grower and longtime La Porte resident. He died at home Thursday and was buried in Forest Park Cemetery Houston. Survivors include his wife five daughters two sons two sisters a brother and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vickers a pioneer Texas family member helped organize the Old Rice Growers Association and served on the sheriff's staff since 1945. He was a veteran of Sam Houston's army and connected with the Austin Colony and Edwards Colony lineages.
