Allied forces reported heavy firepower cost the Viet Cong 1501 killed in 24 hours while US jets and naval firebombed North Vietnam. South Vietnamese troops repelled a 71-man assault near Go Dau, four American tanks seized by the Reds but recovered. Koreans said 214 Viet Cong killed in Oper ation Fierce Tiger near Qui Nhon, the largest Korean operation to date. The week’s tally: 680 Americans wounded, 17 captured. Viet Cong losses rose, while South Vietnamese casualties rose to 232. Air missions blasted Magia Pass, bridges, junks, and rail lines along the Red River valley.
