Harms Hydropower at Risk in Changing Climate
The federal government warns climate change could disrupt rain snow and temperature patterns in the West harming agriculture the environment and hydroelectric power. A Bureau of Reclamation report finds some areas may receive less snow and more rain reducing reservoir water for irrigation while higher temperatures increase evaporation. Reservoirs could lose water and hotter summers raise demand for hydro power, yet runoff may dwindle. The study covers eight rivers from Washington to Texas including the Columbia Sacramento San Juan and Colorado.
