Elevated dioxin levels found in San Jacinto River pits
Sediment samples from the San Jacinto River waste pits show dioxin levels up to 43,700 parts per trillion, far exceeding the EPA protective limit of 220 ppt. Damaged cap area discovered in December prompted repairs by International Paper, McGinnis Industrial Maintenance, and Waste Management of Texas, with sediment testing to assess releases. Community advocates cite higher-than-initial findings and call for ongoing scrutiny.
