Anahuac Refuge invites visitors with trails, wildlife and maps
The refuge offers birding with 27 duck species and numerous waterfowl, plus roseate spoonbills and egrets. Reptiles like snakes and alligators inhabit the trails and boardwalks. Ranger Schutter warns to stay on trails and not poke animals. Ike damage in 2008 has been repaired thanks to volunteers and renewed facilities.
