Mark Fleming reports on the 2011 Bay Area Relay for Life as it nears with broad participation aiming to keep the event among the nation's largest fundraisers. The Baytown relay has ranked as Texas’ biggest event for 11 straight years, top in the High Plains Division for five years, and the 10th largest nationally in 2011. Lee College regents awarded a contract to NCM for asbestos abatement in Rundell Hall at a Thursday meeting. Baytown police seek public help in a murder arson case found Saturday January 28 at Shady Oaks RV Park in the 6200 block of North Highway 146. Firefighters arrived within a minute to a smoking travel trailer where 49 year old Ronald Pearson was found dead.
A police standoff near Cleveland yielded no new leads in two missing persons cases but uncovered a cache of ammunition, weapons, and pipe bomb materials in the possession of fugitive Joseph "JoJo" Brunson. Brunson was arrested at his mobile home on County Road 2134 near Farm Road 787 after hours of negotiations. Six others were persuaded to leave the scene during tense moments as officers surveilled the residence, following tips tied to a person of interest in Crosby resident Mark Rhineburger’s disappearance.
