A four engine Air Transport Services plane carrying 66 people crashed near the Lualualei ammunition depot on Oahu. There were no survivors, with 50 passengers and nine crew aboard. Emergency crews reached the scene and found the wreckage on a ridge in the Weianae mountains.

Officials warn Texas motorists must display 1995 safety inspection stickers by April 13 to avoid penalties. Only four weeks remain as enforcement begins April 16 for uninspected cars bearing old stickers. Col. Uomer Garrison Jr and Wd. Eliott urge owners to use inspection stations promptly to prevent delays and fines.

Two Houston men James R. Clements and A D Morris are held on charges of feeting theft in four counties. Texas Ranger John Wond mud says they stolen about 300000 worth of air field equipment across Texas New Mexico Oklahoma and Louisiana since 1951. They allegedly loaded items from yards at night and sold most to Lloyd Shell an air field equipment dealer in Beaumont who received about 78000 for his role.
The House expected to approve the administration plan to sell government rubber plants to private owners of oil, chemical and rubber interests. Senate Banking Committee approved sale for 285 million dollars and backed bidding on the Baytown plant. debate continues as House considers a veto resolution and separate bids including a three California plant sale to Shell for 20 million.
Barbers Hill school board secretary Perl Irish will retire from the board. Joe M. Benson, Raytown Refinery employee and farmer, is likely to fill the post. Jor Matthews, Joy Presnell seek re election as the others file by Tuesday. Election set for April 2 with absentee voting starting once ballots are printed.
Finance director A Y Barber reports Baytown’s business activity shows little change with few declines and some new openings. He notes inventory of personal property tax assessments for 600 establishments is underway and work continues in various districts as the tax equalization board prepares for May appointments.
Frank Rakentraw of La Porte, a polio survivor, wed Katherine Ebert in La Porte First Methodist Church. The ceremony, led by Rev. John Nakestraw and Rev. Monavick Gorzytki, was witnessed by a dozen polio victims in wheelchairs from San Antonio, Austin, Huntsville, and Houston.
