Benefit starts today for a plant worker with cancer

Baytown friends and co workers of Carlos Serrano organize a barbecue benefit to aid his family after a lung cancer diagnosis. Serrano, employed at Exxon Mobil via Austin Industrial, has fought cancer since 2000 with a relapse and partial lung loss. The weekend fundraiser runs Friday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 1917 Garth Road and Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 595 Texas Horny Toad. Plates cost 6 dollars with delivery for orders of ten or more. A donation fund is set up at Southwest Bank of Texas.

Free colon screening kits at mall by hospital and ACS

San Jacinto Methodist Hospital partners with American Cancer Society and San Jacinto Mall to offer free colorectal cancer screening kits this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the Food Court. The event promotes awareness during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and provides test instructions and information on risk factors and Medicare coverage for follow up testing.

Free tomatoes at arboretum work day event
