Rainy week boosts shrimp and fishing prospects in Texas bays
A wet spell flooded Matagorda rivers and bays, refreshing brackish waters and impacting live bait. Shrimp may rebound as freshwater influx continues, aiding the white shrimp crop in fall. Fishermen report better catches late in the week despite rough winds and high water, with anglers at Baffin Bay, Trinity Bay, and Port O’Connor finding fish along grass and structures. Local captains note warmer temps ahead and a stronger black drum run expected in the Houston Ship Channel and Texas City Dike.

Patriots blank Lady Ganders 12-0 to open district play
Goose Creek Memorial softball routed Robert E. Lee 12-0 at home in District 22-5A opener. Jami Garcia drove in Taylor Stricklin for a 1-0 lead, followed by a string of doubles from Denisse Gracia and Kate Rivardo as Memorial built a 7-0 advantage. Memorial pitcher Meagan Springer aided the shutout as Lee failed to score in the early innings, while Angel Molina and Tiffany West contributed runs. The win came after a brutal pre district schedule and sets up a busy stretch of makeup games for both teams.
