As district play opens, the Lee Gander Baseball Boosters announce a Spring Break Special with hot dogs priced at 25 cents at all home games this week. The deal aims to boost attendance and support the team during early league action.

Baytown voters will decide May 12 with a slim field. Incumbents largely lead races as Bryan Graham, 30, files to challenge District 4 board President Carl Burg. Graham, a lab superintendent at Lyondell, seeks to help guide growth and student outcomes with a goal oriented, non agenda driven approach. Burg did not comment on re election.
Free event from noon to 5 p.m. on March 31 at the Baytown Nature Center promotes outdoor enjoyment and education about area wildlife plants and habitats. Sponsored by the Port of Houston and Friends of the Nature Center, the festival invites families to meet reptiles birds fish turtles and more and learn what Baytown has to offer residents and visitors.
State Rep Wayne Smith filed a bill following a Chambers County task force recommendation to cement the district authority over the eastern Cedar Bayou area and add two Baytown voting members to the board. The measure would also shorten the district name for convenience as noted by the task force. See district page 5.
Baytown residents faced heavy rain and winds Monday with up to two inches of rainfall. Traffic into Houston slowed and Baytown police reported no major accidents though minor crashes rose with the foul weather. Meteorologist Patrick Blood cited a multi round system likely through midweek, predicting one to three inches of rain and occasional hail with possible tornado winds but more probable straight line gusts.
U S representative Ron Paul announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination on C-SPAN. The nine term congressman, who identifies as a libertarian, said he was reluctant at first but that many people want to hear his message and he is willing to deliver it. See Paul page 5.
