Baytown building permits for February surpassed January by more than double. IT Pear cock, building inspector, notes the February total reached $628,975 with a school construction permit at $37,000, accounting for more than half. January’s total permits amounted to $811,349.

Thief Uses Company Truck in Cigarette Burglary

A burglar took 33000 worth of cigarettes from Bay Distributing Co and used the firm’s truck to haul them away. About 200 in cash was also stolen from a cabinet. R. B. Dickens reports the incident may have occurred around 3 a.m. Carroll Hughes, an employee, believed to be making an emergency delivery when the truck engine started. Investigators R. School land leased for oil near Lee College campus

The Lee County School Board leased about five acres including the Administration Building Memorial Stadium and Robert E Lee campus sections to J. Brown, who offered the only bid. The deal includes a $2000 cash bonus and a one quarter royalty on any flowing well, with a six month term and a 200 foot setback from buildings. Gulf Weather Forecast Nudges Warmth After Cold Front

Polio Strikes Cedar Bayou Girl in Houston Hospital

Eleven month old Tamela Going of Cedar Bayou is hospitalized in Texas Children’s Hospital Houston with paralytic polio as reported by the county health department. She contracted the disease in March and was admitted the next day. Officials say she is “doing very well.” Two other polio cases are on record in Baytown’s county health department: Charles Cook and Jennifer Lynn Carrie. Cook works at United Rubber and Nites Co and is about a year old.
