Jury selection in McManus capital murder trial drags third day
Houston bulletin reports Vernon E. McManus, 33, awaiting jurors in his capital murder case entered a fourth day with no panel chosen. Prosecutors and defense questioned seven jurors over two days. five were excused for cause and two were struck by the defense leaving 11 strikes for later use. A new panel of 12 jurors was called Thursday and by mid morning three had been questioned and challenged for cause in Judge LD McMaster’s 17th District Court.

Services Pending For Former Sun Printer
George Garrett Cassity 32 of 413 Pamela Baytown died at 2 a m Thursday at Ben Taub Hospital after a lengthy illness. Arrangements for a bloodmobile unit to donors to replace blood used in Cassity's treatment are being made with Blood Services and Ben Taub Hospital. About 60 donors are needed. Services are pending at Paul U Lee Funeral Home. He was a 1968 REL graduate and worked at The Sun 1966 to 1975. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, a son, a grandmother, an uncle and three aunts, and a sister.
