Baytown Sun introduces Profiles 2008, a four part Sunday series honoring Community & Volunteers Health & Education Business & Industry and Leadership. The edition highlights the people and places shaping Baytown now and beyond and marks the town’s celebration of its assets.

District 6 incumbent Sammy Mahan, in office two terms, confirmed a bid reasserting plans to fight for the post. So far David McCartney, a 47 year old independent insurance salesman from Roseland Oaks, has filed to challenge Mahan.
Goose Creek area site marking a decade of wetlands education and recreation. The Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center celebrates ten years of public programs, nature access, and community involvement along Goose Creek.
The Lady Ganders hosted Kingwood in District 21-5A action and fell 7 to 5. Kingwood scored late runs to pull away while Ganders produced timely hits but could not overcome the deficit.

Rogers is the first Baytown Sun recipient since the award’s 1991 creation honoring Hartman a longtime Baytown civic leader who began his newspaper career.
