Baytown officials invite private groups to submit plans for a privately financed hotel and conference center on Bagland Island. Proposals accepted until 2 p.m. April 7. City has pursued island development since 1970 with marina bonds and previous restaurant ventures failing to sustain operations.
Hilda Trujillo, a Baytown mother who left school at 14 after pregnancy, shared how abuse and poverty shaped her path. Denied work for lack of education, she pursued a GED to support her two children, inspired by the need to care for her family.
