In Baytown with filing day near three men filed for City Council seats. District 4 incumbent M. L. Campbell quit seeking re election. Candidates are Wade Callam District 4 Waller H. Boucher District 5 and John W Sprayberry District 1. Incumbents Reeves and Lawless won t seek re election. Campbell will devote time to church work and civic activity. Mayor Pruett backs Callam as his personal candidate.

Four Win Prizes For Essays In Baytown Fair Contest

Four Baytown area youths won prizes in the Baytown Fair livestock show essay contest. First prize went to Stricklin of Cedar Bayou for 25 dollars after describing a trip to South Texas with agricultural centers. Second and third prizes went to Glenda Hensley and Joe Krizak, with 15 and 10 dollars respectively, while Dub Gentry received a 45 award and commendation for his essay.

World Day of Prayer Observed at Mare's Aretoogiat Church

Sun Spots reports Mare's Aretoogiat Church will open the sanctuary 6 to 8 pm Friday for World Day of Prayer with organ music by Mia C. R. Martin and Ewell Clarke. Mrs Lela Rawlinson Dies Buried At McKnight Cemetery

Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Bell Rawlinson 38 were held at Faith Temple with Rev M D Ford officiating. Died Thursday in a Baytown hospital after living in Baytown since 1941. Survivors include husband Cecil and son Eudl Dean, mother Flora Wade, two brothers and three sisters. Man Nabbed In Hit Run Collisions

Two hit and run crashes Thursday night ended with Herbert C Lloyd a seven year old machine helper at Huber camp arrested after a witness described Lloyds car and a chrome headlight ring was found. Lloyd admitted driving the car and that the stolen car report was false. A second crash at Sun Tinos involved Douglas Blura’s parked car. Police identified Lloyd as the driver and issued two fines for failure to stop and give information. Girl Scouts wear uniforms to church services observing National Girl Scout Week.

Col Batchelor Charged By Army With Aiding Reds

Col Batchelor faces Army charges of collaborating with the enemy while a POW. He was arrested at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio after a routine medical checkup. Mrs. Mary Lillie Lane died in a Houston hospital at 8 05 pm Thursday. She was 78. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm in Harthman chapel with burial at San Jacinto Memorial cemetery. Bitter Consolidation Vote Faces Final Day In Texas

Supporters and opponents of the Baytown Cedar Bayou school district merger await Saturday results after polls close at 7 p.m. Voters in Baytown and Cedar Bayou will decide if consolidation occurs with 1,700 to 1,800 expected voters in Carlur Bayou. Campaigns include a Cedar Bayou board letter opposing the merger and a Baytown Junior Chamber get out the vote push, amid last minute mailers and leaflets. County Judge Bob Casey called the election after a petition.

Mrs Cheshire Takes Rabies Shots After Dog Bite

Mrs A L Cheshire of 1801 Utah is the fastest Baytonian to receive rabies shots after being bitten by a mad dog. The small orange yellow stray picked up on Williams Street went mad after 10 days in her care and bit her hand. The dog was destroyed.
