Baytown School Board President A R Stark says the guiding factor in consolidation with Cedar Bayou will be what is best for each child. He would allow Cedar Bayou 11th graders to graduate there in 1959 and keep Cedar Bayou juniors in their schools if zoning changes occur. Stark believes Robert E Lee High School has room for Cedar Bayou’s top three grades and rejects notions of closing Cedar Bayou elementary or junior high schools.
In Boyston on March 4, three U.S. district judges refused Parr George B Parr’s plea for federal protection against alleged Texas Rangers threats. Judges Keaverly Hannay and Connally dismissed the suit against Ranger Captain Alfred Y Allee but left no condonation of Bridge slapping Archer Parr. Parr, a Duval County sheriff, argued civil rights violations and sought federal relief with attorney Arthur Garfield Hays.

His varied career includes coaching at Temple and Lomar Tech Beaumont, naval service, and an all state selection at Hondo High School. Tomlin was recently fired amid poker allegations.

A broad storm system brought sleet freezing rain and rain across West Texas and beyond. Temperatures ranged from the teens in parts of the Panhandle to near 50 in the far south with a warming trend expected Friday night into Saturday.

Baytown schools will honor over 280 teachers in ceremonies Thursday as part of Public Education Week. The event recognizes long service with top awards, including 33 year veteran Miss De Witt and 32 year veteran Mrs. Odell. A total of 16 will receive year-end honors, with others recognized for five years. The program at Robber? Lae begins at 7 30 pm with Supt Gentry and board president Stork presenting awards. A Carver program honoring 38 teachers was to start at 4 30 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Are bulay Mickey Nelson, 18, will be held at Birthman chapel at 7 pm Thursday. She died after a three day illness in Gaytown hospital. Her husband, Ralph D B Nelson, is with the Army in Korea and is believed en route home. The Rev. A T Martin will conduct. Burial will be in Plymouth Falls, Oregon, after the husband’s arrival. She lived in Bay Town since last November and worked at Brunson theater as usher. She attended Oak Ridge High School. Surviving are her husband, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Carl Burmbleheart, four sisters, three brothers, all in Oregon.

Baytown's City Council race remains open with no candidates visible except possibly Councilman M. L. Campbell who has not announced any plan to run. Outgoing members Reeves and Lawless will not seek re election. City clerk Edna Oliver reports no filings or inquiries yet and notes the April 6 election filing deadline is Saturday midnight, though City Hall closes at noon.
