Severe winter conditions and two large increases in job seekers pushed the February unemployment rate to 7.9 percent from 7.4 percent in January. The Labor Department cited weather and energy shortages as factors, noting a rise of 2.225 million unemployed and a 720,000 shift to part-time due to production cuts.

The project aims to boost U.S. olefins capacity address growth and supply feedstocks from the Baytown Refinery while leveraging Baytown’s location labor pool and quality of life. The Ross Sterling American Ried Service Club will sponsor its annual bond drive to fund a student going abroad for a year. A door to door sale runs 6 30 to 10 p m Tuesday March 2 Bonds cost 1 each. The drive aims to beat last year's 950 total and homeroom classes compete for prizes while Americas program organizes events and speakers.
