Waste pits settlement funds to Baytown projects approved
Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan announced that more than 2 million of the 10 million from the San Jacinto River Waste Pits lawsuit will fund park acquisitions improvements and educational programs in Harris County. The 2014 verdict found McGinnis Industrial Maintenance liable for 29.2 million. 10 million to Texas and later transferred to Harris County. Public officials highlighted the historic first return of state designated funds to local government. See projects page 3.

Mont Belvieu City Council cleared a major hurdle by approving rezoning and site plans for the M L Wismer Distributing Co facility along I 10 at Eagle Drive. A coordinated operation across Houston Pasadena and the Port of Houston led to 130 arrests on about 200 charges. Baytown Police Department HPD Pasaden a DPS DHS and the Harris County DA collaborated with multiple divisions to target a large criminal group focused on big-ticket items often stolen from trailers. Goose Creek CISD keeps tax rate steady for 2016 17
Goose Creek Independent School District trustees voted unanimously to adopt a 2016 17 budget keeping the tax rate at 1.43189 per 100 in valuation with no current rate increase. The general fund expenditures total 203.86 million dollars and employee pay raises are not included. A tax ratification election is set for Sept 10 to approve the combined rate again at 1.43189 with maintenance and operations rising 13 cents and interest and sinking decreasing 13 cents from the prior year.

Barbers Hill approves budget with 2 percent pay hike
Barbers Hill ISD will keep its tax rate for the new budget, approved by the board, with the general fund revised from June 6 projections. Assistant Superintendent Becky McManus notes a $277,000 payroll reduction as 20 placeholder positions were replaced with active salary data, lowering the final general fund estimate to $72.9 million.
