Thunderstorms drenched Baytown with nearly 5 inches this week while the city and month tally near 8 inches. Texans saw May rainfall of 4.03 inches, with June on track to exceed the 3.44 inch long term average, easing drought compared with 2011 when over 72 percent of the state endured exceptional drought. Texas A M University will award C Ray Holbrook Jr a 1944 Robert E Lee High School graduate the Distinguished Alumni Award at the Association of Former Students gala on Oct 10 and at the Oct 11 Texas A M vs Ole Miss game. Holbrook noted he shares the award with George Mitchell and Admiral Robert Smith from Galveston. He starred in the Lee marching band and track field, earned degrees in chemical engineering at Texas A M, served in the Navy, and had a career as an engineer.
