A reception for the Rev. Glynn Ferguson and his family will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church of Mont Belvieu. Ferguson has been assigned to the church for another year, and friends in the community are invited.

Baytown will file roughly 60 delinquent tax suits in Houston state district court, City Atty. Bill Laughlin says. He notes the June total excludes others on the roll and that about 40 suits were filed in May, with three-fifths settled out of court. The city aims to collect $50,000 more this year than in 1969 and has $22,000 more in receipts than at the same time last year, aided by data processing and a policy to avoid stacking. The city seeks settlements via limited installments and is willing to work with taxpayers who act.
Baytown officials led by Terry Dopson urge broader civic beautification, praising a $550,000 bond for park land acquisition as conservation awareness grows nationwide. Dopson, head of Parks and Recreation, outlined land goals for six neighborhood parks, two community parks, and one city park, with 40 tracts surveyed from small lots to large 100 acre parcels.

Baytown parents must file transfer requests by July 15 for high schools and Harlem Elementary, with others due by August 10. The district adopts a new transfer form system and allows Harlem space to be filled if available. Elementary transfers may be queued to August 1 due to summer vacations and zone adjustments.

Wilber Walker, a first grader struck by a car last October near Cedar Bayou Mobile Park, endured a 25 day coma and dual casts. Surgeons implanted spinal rods after discovering a severed spinal cord. He now tires easily, uses a new cast, and hopes for walking as his family plans to move nearer his father’s job. His special helpers are Sam the parakeet and Jhon Tohn the French poodle. He praises Mrs. Hinson, his homebound teacher, and awaits next year’s schooling arrangements.
