Protest grows over HL and P Mill Creek plant plans
Rural landowners between Sealy and Bellville organize the Mill Creek Environmental Protection Association to block a new HL&P generating plant or seek higher compensation. HL&P says it is acquiring 8000 acres along Mill Creek for the project and a 7500 acre lake for cooling. About 159 residents attended a public meeting as Robert William Abel was elected chair. landowner Marshall Stewart defended the project noting land value gains from the lake. HL&P cites studies showing minimal environmental impact and available undeveloped land in Austin County.
