Barbers Hill District Forecasts Four Cent Tax Cut

Barbers Hill School Board tentatively approves an $881,700 budget for 1970 and a tax rate cut from 1.58 to 1.52 pending a July 27 public hearing. Tax values may rise by $600,000, boosting the 1970 roll toward $51.8 million. Final 1970 tax roll figures await tax equalization board meetings July 25 27 and 28.

LC Director Named To Personnel Post

John McCormick, director of special programs at Lee College, has been named director of Region V of the Correctional Education Association. The eight-region national group serves professional personnel in correctional institution education across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. LC teachers taught 78 class sections for 910 students at eight TDC units this spring, and McCormick oversees deaf education programs. The Baytonian notes his regional appointment.

Teen Here Will Head Neighborhood Clubs in Baytown

Debbie Deslatte the 1B year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs A A Deslatte heads a group of 16 teenagers from Houston who will lead 5 Day Clubs across Baytown this July under the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Harris County. Baytown Man George F. McClure Dies Crossing Highway

Services pending for George Frank McClure 50 of 1602 Richardson Lane who was killed Sunday morning while crossing U S Highway 190 in West Baton Rouge Parish Louisiana. He was a radio officer on the Esso Philadelphia tanker. He leaves a wife three daughters a son a step daughter and several relatives. He was a veteran mariner of 29 years and held membership in multiple Masonic and veterans organizations.

FBI reports slower growth in violent crime nationwide
