New Polio Center Opens At Jeff Davis Hospital

The Southwest Polio Center at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Baytown opens tomorrow. It will serve up to 60 patients and treat respiratory and other polio cases from Texas Oklahoma Arkansas Louisiana and beyond. The center is a joint project of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and local groups with Baylor Medical College and Jefferson Davis Hospital providing staff and facilities.

Yoeim's Body Sent To Illinois For Rites

George F. Yoeim aged 76, longtime Ohio Oil Company foreman, died Wednesday at home of son and daughter in law, Minloe Shaneck. His remains were sent by Paul U. Sea Funeral Home to Marshall Bimerel Chapel, Illinois, for Saturday services. Survivors include four nephews and several relatives in Houston, Amarillo, Gibsonburg Ohio, and Gibsonkure.

May and City Council Discuss $200000 Baytown Projects

Baytown officials and County Commissioner Hugh A May toured the city to review a $200,000 street work and drainage project. The plan would widen West and South Main from Merket Street to Old Goose Creek, concrete pave with joint participation. County to furnish labor and equipment, city to provide engineering and materials. Projects also include Park Street construction, Wooster-Baytown Road paving, and an extension of Old Lynchburg Road near the Southern Pacific tracks.
