Baytown police chief outlines efforts to curb crime with 155 patrol officers and detectives. Crime through May 2013 totals 1,665 offenses versus 1,520 in 2012, with burglaries up to 410 and robberies at 55. Authorities urge residents to report suspicious activity, especially along Garth Road, to aid dispatch and prevent thefts.
The monthly Nurture Nature program returns July 6, every first Saturday from 10 am to noon. The nature center at 6213 Bayway Drive offers free admission with general entry, while adults and youths over 13 pay 3 dollars.
