Pasadena native James Weaver 22 a Baytown Fire Department Station 5 firefighter has enlisted in the U S Army Infantry Division taking a five year military leave under a civil servant law that protects his job. Weaver cites troop shortages and a long held wish to serve.

Lions Camp in Texas Builds Confidence for Children with Diabetes
The Texas Lions Camp, a free 51 year old summer program in Kerrville on 504 acres, hosts more than 130 counselors for around 200 children with Type 1 diabetes and physical disabilities. Activities include swimming, horseback riding, arts, archery, nature study, and overnight camping, with facilities such as a junior Olympic pool, lake, rope course, and a dining hall for 400.
