Senators Join to Curb Cotton Gin Pollution in Texas
Sen. Criss Cole of Houston and Sen. Chet Brooks of Pasadena co sponsored an amendment to strike a rider in the Appropriations bill that would have blocked the air control board from spending to curb cotton gin pollution. Cotton gins in 85 percent of Texas counties affect over 500 000 people and can emit up to 4 000 times the accepted human level. The action closes a loophole in Texas pollution control and aims to prevent future exemptions for other polluters.
