Navy missile hydrofoil Gemini visits Galveston
The USS Gemini, one of six hydrofoil ships in Hydrofoil Squadron Two based in Key West, toured Galveston June 11 to 14. Able to skim the Gulf at over 40 knots, the craft demonstrates flyover movement with two foils. Commanding officer Lt Cmdr Bernard J. McCullough III outlined routine maneuvers, and the ship has partnered with the Coast Guard to deter drug trafficking in the Florida Straits using its MK75 gun and eight Harpoon missiles.
