Baytown police officer Mark Smith, a patrol officer with under two years in service, faces an investigation into alleged sexual assault and official oppression. The incident reportedly occurred May 24 at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of West Baker Road, Camden Apartments, while off duty.
The city asks the 14th Court of Appeals to reconsider part of its opinion in the Baytown Sun suit against Mont Belvieu and Strong Sports Management Inc. over payroll records at the Eagle Pointe Golf and Recreation Complex. The Sun sought detailed spending data tied to the tax funded complex. The city argued it has no right to review or disclose precise payroll documents under its management contract with SSMI. The motion does not seek to overturn the ruling that the city can audit the complex’s books and that detailed salary information is subject to disclosure.
Texas Water Development Board grants 13.3 million from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to Baytown Area Water Authority for 31 000 feet of 30 inch transmission main and surface water treatment plant upgrades to meet Safe Drinking Water Act standards. A 1.6 million loan funds Harris County Fresh Water Supply District No. 27 near Craigmont. City Clerk Gary Smith says the new line will loop north and provide backup and better pressure for the city’s single current line. The Baytown Authority sources raw water from Houston and sells treated water to Baytown Cedar Bayou Water Supply Co Country Terrace Water Co Harris County Fresh Water Supply District No. 27 and Harris District No. 1 A.
Baytown Planning and Zoning Commission backs sending a resolution to City Council in May to update and consolidate zoning and development ordinances into one Unified Land Development Code ULDC. Cost estimate to hire consultants 125000 to 150000 with goal to broaden zoning categories. Also approves two subdivisions and preliminarily approves two others including Tanglewilde Section Three and Preston Place Section Three and Springfield sections with hundreds of lots and acres.
Baytown Shriners fed the Bayou Bowl players on both teams as they prepare to serve the Shriners Hospitals for Children this Saturday. The all star game features top Southeast Texas and Louisiana graduates with proceeds aiding the charity. Players like Brian Orakpo and Rashad Bobino praised the cause and the Baytown organizers.
