Longtime HCDE Baytown ESL teacher Martir retires after 25 years
Teresa Martir, 25-year Baytown adult education teacher with HCDE, retires at 511 S Whit ing Baytown where she began her career. An immigrant from the Philippines in 1985 she became a U.S. citizen in 1991 and helped about 5,000 students gain English and citizenship skills. Her colleagues note her impact and many students stopped by to say thanks.

Dayton Graduates at LeTourneau May 2013 Commencement
LeTourneau University in Longview celebrated 315 graduates in its May 2013 commencement, including three from Dayton who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Jeremy Landry earned a Master’s in psychology, Jennifer Shuman a Bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies, and Blake Willermin a Bachelor’s in engineering technology. Audrey Parker of Baytown made the Texas Woman’s University dean’s list for spring 2013 after completing at least 12 graded credits with 3.5 GPA.
