States eye profit sharing on offshore wells
The Interstate 68 Compact Commission endorsed a plan to share offshore lease revenues and urged Congress to formalize state oversight of adjacent states regulatory practices. Four bills under consideration could distribute funds from outer continental shelf leases among coastal states and the 50 states by population. The commission pressed for continued oil imports limits and noted the Middle East crisis as a reason for self sufficiency in petroleum.
