Jynn Kennedy of La Porte and Jerilyn Malone of Baytown earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing Wednesday from the University of Texas Nursing School at Galveston. Details of commencement and future plans were not provided.
The forecast calls for sunny to partly cloudy skies with continued warmth through Thursday and southeasterly winds of 10 to 20 mph. Temperature ranges are given as 14 to 8 degrees Wednesday and 71 to 33 on Tuesday. Galveston tides list high tides at 3:06 am, 10:36 am, 3:18 pm, and 1:06 am. no low tide is reported.

The Baytown school board approved a 1967 68 audiovisual equipment budget totaling 43747 75 with National Defense Education Act funds covering 50 percent provided the purchase is completed by June 30. Low bidders stood by original offers with Audio Visual Services of Houston receiving 19094 20 for main gear including projectors and record players. Other contracts include Teaching Systems Inc Dallas 37622 75 La nier Company Houston 2383 Business Products Houston 13911 88 Gene's Center Baytown 724 Audio-Visual Materials Gonzalez 386 92 and related items. Paint bids from six firms were accepted with per unit limits, plus 700 cubic yards top soil bid from Bayou Construction Co for 1715 to be used at Ross S Sterling practice field.
Supt. George Gentry was asked to study the district summer school program with possible salary increases for teachers and changes to course duration. Trustee James Ellis pushed for higher summer school pay while Mrs. Earl W. Opry shek suggested varying course lengths. Baytown students are drawn to Channelview’s intensive three-web courses being offered during eight week sessions.
The Baytoun Sun circulation department remains open until 6 30 p m daily to assist subscribers. Under normal conditions all carrier salesmen should have completed deliveries by 5 30 p m. Those who have not received a paper by that time are asked to telephone 587 8502.
The Baytown School District will not employ a library coordinator at the present time, and Trustee Mrs. Karl W. Opryshek is not very happy about it. She supported creating elementary school central libraries as instructional materials centers in the bond issue, but trustees asked for a administration recommendation. Supt. George Gentry and Deputy Supt. John Stuart said a coordinator is not needed now, leaving Mrs. Opryshek surprised by the decision.
In Cincinnati two large fires caused extensive damage as 800 National Guardsmen aided police to quell a second night of racial rioting in Negro neighborhoods. The Modern Laundry building and the Seybold Paper Co. warehouse burned. authorities cited gasoline bombs. Police reported over 20 arrested, 22 injured, and widespread looting. Guardsmen patrolled streets while bars and liquor outlets were closed in a northeast district.
The San Jacinto Methodist Hospital development committee kicked off a $670,000 Hill Burton grant funded expansion effort to add 42 beds and a diagnostic and treatment center. Drs. Robert Whitson and FOL Taubert chair the professional gifts committee with Dr. Wm E Marshall as honorary chair. About 25 people heard remarks by Dr. James H. Sammons and others in the hospital cafeteria after a dinner meeting.
Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin plans a first U S trip to address a special U N General Assembly session on Israel. Moscow sources say the Soviet Union has requested landing rights at New York's Kennedy Airport for a special Soviet government aircraft.
Emergency crews prepared to search Cedar Bayou near Highway 146 for a 40 year old Houston man named Lorenzo Potter of the Studio Apartments Chartres and Eagle in Houston. Potter was crabbing with four companions when the accident occurred.
Memorial services for 2nd Lt James Douglas Carter Jr., 24, of Bayton, who wrote vividly of his gallant actions in Vietnam near Da Nang, will be at 7 Thursday in First Christian Church. He was killed June 7 while leading a patrol in Operation Cimarron near Da Nang after being wounded in Quang Tri. He earned two Purple Hearts in two months and a possible Bronze Star. Surviving family includes his wife Janice and infant son John Scott, plus parents, siblings, and grandparents. Funeral arrangements are by Weldrip Funeral Home in Houston, with a memorial fund at First Christian Church and a Marine funeral at the Houston Veterans Cemetery pending bed arrival.
Fourth and fifth graders in Baytown schools will begin Spanish with a wordless book titled Introducing Spanish from Holt Rinehart Winston. A companion worded book Primer Curse will serve fifth graders. a pilot in Ashbel Smith Angen Jones and Highlands Elementary schools aims to expand next year. A display chart and tapes by native speakers will aid listening, speaking, reading, and writing in an aural oral approach led by Foreign Language Coordinator Barney Webber with Mary East.
