Eckhardt Urges 40000 For Baytown Levee Study

Funeral services for Robert F. Lemmon Sr. recalled Baytown pioneer days after he moved here in 1916 from Goose Creek. He worked in oil fields, later farmed, and lived in a Brenham nursing home. Officers Expected In Court By Judge Vickery

Justice of the Peace Glenn Vickery warned law enforcement, subpoenaed persons, and the Harris County DA's office to appear in court when ordered. He cited 17 cases on Thursday's docket dismissed due to widespread absences including deputies, a Texas Highway Patrolman, prosecutors, and witnesses. Baytonian Awarded DSC For Viet Action

Staff Sgt. Fred Rios, son of Mr and Mrs Ambrosia Rios, 6518 Wade Road, earned the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in Vietnam on May 13 1968 near Bong Son bridge north of Qui Nhon. He shielded comrades from a grenade, then rallied his men and repelled a Viet Cong attack, with no casualties in his unit. Rios has multiple decorations and plans to attend Lae College after returning from Fort Ord.

Baytown Adopts Land Use Enforcement Ordinance July 1

The Baytown city council unanimously adopted an ordinance to empower land use controls through legal means. First National Opens New Home Monday Morning

First National Bank of Baytown will open in a new building at One Albert Thomas Circle with a 10 a.m. ribbon ceremony led by former Texas Gov. Price Daniel of Liberty. Bank officers greet the public during a 30- minute opening and a day-long open house with violinists. The affiliated First National Agency and travel agency open at noon. Architect Lowell Lammers designed the bronze glazed brick structure. Gene Hazelwood is the contractor.
