Youth volunteers help Baytown church in BIG HOUSE mission
Fifteen local students joined nearly 1,000 junior high youths in a Thursday through Sunday BIG HOUSE work camp at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Baytown. Less spending could slow the economic recovery
Americans pulled back on spending, risking a slower recovery as May retail sales fell 1.2 percent, the largest drop in eight months. Excluding autos, building materials, and gas, May sales rose 0.1 percent, but economists warn demand may stay weak amid near double digit unemployment and sluggish hiring. The economy grew 3 percent in Q1, boosted by 3.5 percent consumer spending, though forecasters may trim current quarter growth estimates.
