Baytown Firefighters Reach Market-Rate Salary Agreement
Union president Mark Medrano and Baytown officials reached a collective bargaining deal that raises firefighters pay to market rates over nine years starting January 1. The agreement covers 12 months and includes standard benefits, while bilingual certification pay remains an area to address. If approved by the union and City Council, the raise would move salaries from 39397 to 43115 in year one and continue through year nine to 54617.

Lee College board narrows search for new president
Regents plan to select from a shortlist of semi finalists and may call two to four finalists for interviews. The board will conduct interviews and make the final choice. Chair Don Coffey says the decision is crucial for the college. The pool is expected to be 40 to 50 applicants, down from over 100 in past years due to relocation reluctance and fewer administrative prep programs. Still, the college’s strong national reputation and leadership opportunities entice candidates. Interim President Dennis Topper guides three major building projects as four deans transition. The board meets at 5:30 p.m. at Tucker Hall on the Lee College campus.
