Sterling and Barbers Hill girls basketball teams joined several area schools in Tuesday night action at the Barbers Hill Summer League.
Lee College forward Hollis Giles has signed a binding letter of intent to play basketball for Georgetown College in Kentucky, solidifying a move from junior college to the NAIA program for the upcoming season.
Local 10 reports Project Leeway invites those willing to sacrifice to return to school at Lee College. The initiative targets adults seeking higher education and workforce training through campus resources and support.

Harris County Medical Examiner's Office determined the newborn boy found in a Cedar Bayou Junior School restroom toilet died by homicide. He was submerged in water with airway obstruction from paper and blunt force trauma to the neck and head. The teenager mother, 14, says she was unaware of and did not know she had given birth.
Esmerelda Garcia and Isabel Rodriguez toured Baytown Area Rehabilitation Center during the facilitys 60th anniversary celebration. The event showcased stations for physical therapy work rehabilitation aquatic therapy occupational therapy speech language therapy and Early Childhood Intervention services at 5313 Decker Drive. Guests learned about services under one roof and residents expressed appreciation for the grand tour they finally received.
Former Lee College president Martha Ellis spoke at a Baytown Hispanic Chamber of Commerce event, her final public appearance. Ruben De Hoyos, who helped recruit her, called Ellis an icon as community leaders recalled her six years at the college and her impact.
Baytown area signs indicate the Grand Parkway SH 99 toll of 14 to 15 cents per mile will arrive later than expected, possibly in fall 2010 with other segments following as early as 2011. Executive Director David Garnet says the tolls will fund upkeep and deter gas tax increases while two segments of the 180 mile loop are open free for now.
The Baytown Health Department announces a staffing expansion after a Public Health budget increase. Since March, restaurant score reports rose from 10–20 per week to 36 in a recent period, signaling a shift as newly hired staff complete training. Director Mike Lester says manpower could triple in coming months.
