Texas Education Cost Gap Highlighted In State Report
Texas spent 482 dollars per public school pupil in current expenditures, well below the national average of 619. The Texas State Teachers Association notes slow growth in funding over a decade, a rising student population, and gaps in teacher salaries and dropout retention. Texas ranks 23rd in average teacher pay and 42nd in high school graduation rate, with signaled improvements in graduation totals since 1962.
