Goose Creek CISD honored 21 retiring employees at its May 26 Gala held at Ross S. Sterling High School. The Hats Off event recognized 430 years of combined service to the district with tributes from colleagues and families. Robert E Lee High School students and families joined University of Houston coaches Thursday for a College Forward recognition ceremony. The program started February 2011 at Lee and Eisenhower High Schools and guides students through college applications essays and SAT ACT prep, building mentor relationships and university research over four months.

College hosts regional forum on underage drinking prevention
Lee College will host the 2011 Texans Standing Tall Southeast/Gulf Coast Regional College Forum on Friday to involve students and residents in fighting underage alcohol abuse. Sponsored by Lee College and several community groups, the event aims to educate on alcohol abuse trends and prevention strategies. Alamo Elementary honors late coach with memorial plan
In February Coach Jon Brunson a 43 year old physical education teacher at Alamo Elementary died after several months with cancer. Colleagues plan a lasting memorial to honor his service and the inspiration he provided to students friends and teachers. He was known for his positive attitude patience and caring nature and for knowing the children well. See coach page 3A.
