Lee grad Randy Heisig retires after 28 years at Grand Prairie

Randy Heisig, a 1975 Baytown Lee graduate, retires as Grand Prairie High School softball coach after 28 years. In tribute the district names the softball complex Randy Heisig Field, honoring his 13 seasons as head coach and his impact on the Gophers. Heisig, son of Jeanne and the late Ed Heisig, said the honor came as a surprise and he plans more time with his wife Robin, a fellow teacher at South Grand Prairie High School.

Crosby Cougars spring drills raise questions on new roles

Crosby's spring game showcased Xavier Frank adapting to running back with a 60-plus yard run and M J Mathis catching a 60 yard TD pass from Dominic Merka. Merka threw four TDs as the offense defeated the defense 64-38. Coach Flanigan noted a 50-50 run pass balance and Merka's added bulk to 205 pounds.

Texas approves 2009 2010 dove season plan changes

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved a 70 day dove season with a 15 bird daily bag across the state under adaptive harvest management. South Zone opens near Sept 20, with a Sept 18 start possible pending federal approval. North Central zones run Sept 1 to Oct 25 and Dec 26 to Jan 9 with similar bag limits. End.
