State seeks 70 mph speed limit for Houston area
Houston environmental regulators proposed restoring a 70 mph limit on area freeways for cars and light trucks after a 55 mph reduction earlier this year. Trucks over 10,000 pounds would stay at 55 mph. Lawmakers and local officials urged reversal citing traffic and environmental concerns. The plan requires TxDOT feasibility, TNRCC commission approval, and EPA consent, with a decision expected after a Wednesday Austin meeting.
