Hearing Sought On Game Refuge For Wallisville Area
About 200 residents attended a Wallisville Landowners Assn meeting at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu to urge Gov. Price Daniel to direct the State Board of Water Engineers to hold a public hearing on a proposed Wallisville salt water barrier and wildlife refuge. The plan includes a four foot barrier near Trinity River mouth and an adjoining refuge filed with the Chief of Army Engineers May 3. The Army must wait 60 days before a Congress recommendation. Bradshaw said the group hopes to block sending the proposal to Congress and noted Houston favors a two foot barrier if federal support is dropped. A June 10 Galveston meeting with Army and Fish and Wildlife Service officials was arranged to obtain more information.

Submerged oil boundaries linger after Supreme Court ruling
The ruling sets state seaward limits at three geographic miles for Florida and Texas, while Louisiana Mississippi and Alabama gain three nautical miles. The decision promises more litigation and possible legislation as states challenge how to measure boundaries and who owns submerged lands. Court futures hinge on whether boundaries are measured from shore or outer islands, creating potentially zigzag lines and further disputes.
