Charred U2 Plane Found in Bolivian Hills

An American U2 reconnaissance jet crashed in western Bolivia near Llanquera after straying about 3200 miles from Florida. Pilot Capt. Robert D. Hickman, 33, of Alexandria Louisiana, was found fatally injured. Officials suspect loss of consciousness possibly from lack of oxygen, with radar contact last over Panama. Wreckage scattered over a wide area as Bolivian and U.S. teams investigated with embassy help.
