Johnson pushes tentative airline strike settlement
President Johnson won quick negotiations toward a tentative contract to end a 21 day strike by 35,606 mechanics. Details remain secret as union leaders and managers gear up for a Sunday ratification vote that will determine when planes return to air. The agreement reportedly allows about 4 percent annual wage increases over three years, above Johnson's 3.2 percent cap, raising questions about inflation.
