Baytown’s Exxon Mobil Plant and Lee College Highlight City Wings
The Exxon Mobil Baytown refinery, the nation’s largest in scale, employs about 3,400 people at a 2400 acre site along the Houston Ship Channel. The plant fuels plastics and everyday goods through its products and community programs. Lee College, 1934 established, serves about 60 percent Baytown students across 33 acres near Bicentennial Park, expanding with 23 new programs and a 62,000 square foot performing arts center. The Fred Hartman Bridge, opened 1995, anchors Baytown’s economy and skyline and links to La Porte. Mayor Stephen DonCarlos hails the bridge as gateway and tribute to local icon James “Jim” Hartman, a former Baytown Sun publisher.
