Lee College Regents Near Bond Sale for $40 Million
Lee College Regents approved preliminary work for is suing bonds and set August or September for bond issuance. They chose a design-build approach to renovate the pilot plant and selected Johnson Controls to plan the work. A preliminary official statement for buyers was approved and a called meeting set for Aug. 6.

Repairman finds lost rings in appliance repair
Bernard Olive took his washer and dryer to Perry’s Appliance Repair on North Main. The repair shop returned the items that day and later called to inform him they had found a tangible item. Olive arrived to discover his late mother-in-law’s wedding rings amid the lint. The discovery followed a routine service, turning an ordinary repair into a remarkable personal find.

Baytown Mayor Stephen DonCarlos proclaimed July as Fair Housing Month at the July 11 city council meeting. Assistant Planning Director Tiffany Foster accepted, praising efforts to educate residents and provide help for rights violations. The act bans housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, or familial status, with possible new categories discussed.

United Way Parenting Workshops Set July 29 30
Community education events for parents of preschoolers return with volunteer led sessions on July 29 and 30 at J D Walker Community Center Baytown. Sessions run 545 pm to 730 pm and cover age appropriate learning activities plus reading and writing introduction. Take home kits funded in part by a Target grant include tools toys and tips for children 0 5 and child care is offered for ages up to 10. On Monday July 29 see Workshops page 9A.
