Husband of LBJ aide lands high paying government post
Simon F. McHugh Jr. won Senate confirmation for a 326000 a year seat on the Subversive Activities Control Board. The White House noted the appointment followed his marriage to Victoria McCammon, a former Johnson secretary. Officials cited loyalty and proximity to the President as factors, while critics called it a hatchet job by the Wall Street Journal. The board, five members, oversees suspected subversive groups with a five year term each.
