Bookmobile service ends after decades of library use
Sterling Municipal Library retires its Bookmobile after 1969 to 2026 era usage and rising operating costs. Volunteers delivered books by Flora Wilhite's VW bus in 1969 and community groups funded the first unit a year later. The service, once popular, saw declining patrons with as few as one or two daily, while gas prices and maintenance made the vehicle uneconomical. Readings shift to home delivery for eligible patrons via the new circulator bus system and monthly van service to facilities and programs.
